Basic Tour: Other Villages and List Screens
|
|
You are now on the Other Villages screen. Remember that you selected the fifth gloss, "(his) eye", on the IPA Data Entry
screen before tapping the "Villages" tab. The fifth gloss is now shown again, but this time you can see the IPA forms for
this gloss in every word list that was created with the TokPisin template.
Tap on the arrows to the left and right of the gloss. You can compare each of the glosses across villages this way.
Tap the "Lists" tab at top right, next to the "Villages" button.
Now you see all of the glosses and their corresponding IPA forms for the village Lewada word list. If the Other Villages
display was "horizontal"--comparing forms for one gloss across word lists--then this display is "vertical", showing all of the
IPA forms for one word list.
Try pushing the scrolling "hard keys" on your Palm: press the buttons circled in yellow below.
These buttons aren't shown on the Palm Simulator, but you can simulate them by pressing the "Page Up" and "Page Down" keys on your desktop keyboard.
When you push the scrolling hard keys, PalmSurv scrolls the list of IPA forms.
Use the down-scroll hard key to go to the bottom of the list.
Tap on the last gloss, "(his) foot", in the List screen display.
You have jumped back to the Data Entry screen, and are now editing the gloss you just tapped in the List screen.
As you can see, especially when working with large word lists, the List screen and scroll buttons allow one to navigate quickly.
